The white foot in the orange circle is an alert for Step Therapy. If you see this alert while selecting a drug for a patient, it means that the patient’s health plan has identified another drug - which should be tried first.
The dollar sign with the down arrow is a formulary alert. It says to the prescriber, ‘There is a cheaper generic alternative that you can prescribe instead of that brand name drug – and it will save your patient money.’ Remedy Systems identifies these opportunities by cross-referencing formulary information with drug selections made at the point-of-care.
The blue eye means that a prescriber needs to check with the health plan before a specific drug can be prescribed. Prior-authorization guidelines are determined on a drug-by-drug basis and may be based on FDA and manufacturer guidelines, medical literature, safety, appropriate use and benefit design. Remedy Systems has made it possible for a prescriber to call a health plan at the point of care – or if the health plan allows it - just click an override button to continue prescribing.
The number 2 is an alert shown next to the listing of each Type II drug. A Type II drug is a controlled substance that cannot be prescribed electronically. A physician must fax or manually prescribe a Type II drug.
The skull and bones is presented next to listed drugs that would create adverse events with drugs the selected patient is already taking. Adverse drug events are BAD. There are 1.5 million adverse drug events that take place each year in the US – Remedy Systems is using technology to catch those events before they happen.
Low-Risk Allergy Alert – The yellow circle with a diagonal hash is low-risk allergy alert. Like the no-smoking sign it’s modeled after, it means you can do it – but it’s probably not good for you.
The orange circle with a diagonal hash is a medium-risk allergy alert. It means there is an allergy present in the drug about to be prescribed that is medium-risk, or in other words, something that should be avoided. These alerts are generated by Remedy when patient information is cross-walked with drug information.
The red circle with a diagonal hash is high-risk allergy alert. It means there is an allergy present in the drug about to be prescribed that is high-risk, or in other words, something that should be prescribed without careful physician consideration. These alerts are generated by Remedy when patient information is cross-walked with drug information.
